** A Day Without Pain Silver Medal Recipient Independent Publisher Book Award **
LAS VEGAS - CENTRAL RECOVERY PRESS (CRP) is pleased to announce that A Day Without Pain by Mel Pohl, MD, FASAM with Mike Donahue received an Independent Publisher Book Award Silver Medal. The award ceremony was held in New York City on May 29, 2009.
Dr. Pohl is a Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine and co-chaired ASAM's Third, Fourth, and Fifth National Forums on AIDS and Chemical Dependency. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Nevada School of Medicine and Vice President of Medical Affairs and Medical Director of the Las Vegas Recovery Center (LVRC).
Central Recovery Press is a progressive publishing company shedding new light on an age-old problem: addiction. To this end, it hopes to break the stigma of addiction by publishing quality books that holistically address the nature of this devastating disease and offers a diverse selection of titles focused on recovery and addiction treatment.
In a recent press release, organizers for Independent Publisher Book Awards stated, "This year's awards attracted 4,090 entries from throughout the US and Canada, plus most English-speaking countries worldwide. Medal-winning books came from forty-four US states plus the District of Columbia, eight Canadian provinces, and six countries overseas." A Day without Pain was chosen from a field of over fifty books in the Health/Medicine/Nutrition sub-category.
The country faces an epidemic of chronic pain, dependence on painkillers, and in many cases addiction to prescription medication. More than fifty million people in the US suffer from long-lasting pain that persists for years. Government agencies report twenty-two percent of primary care patients report being in pain, and 4.5 million patients die in pain each year. Pain is the most frequent reason Americans seek medical attention annually. A Day without Pain addresses this epidemic and provides alternatives to medication-based treatment of chronic pain.
Central Recovery Press is proud of Dr. Pohl's accomplishment and will continue to work to bring more quality books to the public.
