** THE SOUL WORKOUT: Getting and Staying Spiritually Fit **
"This book includes the small, easy-to-practice works of soul-building kind-ness and humanity I learned from my friends and teachers in recovery, as well as narratives detailing my transformation from a state of spiritual sick-ness to spiritual health."
Helen H. Moore, from the Introduction
LAS VEGAS, NV - When you really think about it - isn't it strange that we're all so concerned about our physical health and fitness, but give little thought to what lies beneath, that still, small voice many call the soul?
Helen H. Moore, author of more than seventeen titles for teachers and students and a person in long-term recovery, has given this matter much thought and prayer and the result is The Soul Workout: Getting and Staying Spiritually Fit (May 2010 / Central Recovery Press / $12.95 trade paper).
Moore shares the no-nonsense directions she gleaned as she traveled along the road of twelve-step recovery and shows readers how to implement soul-building acts into their busy lives each day. The book is comprised of sixteen chapters, from Honesty, Hope, Faith, and Awareness to Resentments, Spirituality, Grief and Loss and Gratitude and more. Through positive, practical, and even humorous anecdotes, Moore gently draws us in to the world of the soul. Her stories are heart-wrenching, sad, exhilarating, amusing, and designed to be read at random. Moore's life experiences are common to all of us at some level and her ability to get to the heart of the matter is inspiring and uplifting.
Of special interest are the "Soul Workouts" featured at the end of each chapter consisting of three or four small activities that focus of the topic of that particular chapter. Readers can do any or all of the activities or just think about them as they go about their daily lives.
"By building spiritual practices into my everyday life, I began to rebuild my soul by 'walking the walk,' every day," said Ms. Moore. "You do not need to be a member of a twelve-step fellowship to benefit from this book. You do not need to be religious, either. Anyone who wants to enrich his or her spiritual life and who is willing to do a few simple actions and think a few different thoughts can reap the rewards of The Soul Workout."
